As a leading Australian telecommunications provider prepared to launch a major new product, the business recognised that reliable, trackable customer and service-centric data would be critical to its success. Innablr was engaged to design and implement a modern platform that seamlessly integrated the new service with the client's existing enterprise systems. By building a standards-based API integration layer and centring the data and analytics strategy on Databricks, Innablr transformed basic email notifications into a rich source of customer interaction data, enabling advanced analytics, proactive issue resolution, and a highly responsive customer experience.

Challenges

Launching a new, high-profile service required a customer communication strategy that went beyond simply responding to interruptions. The provider needed to ensure that every customer's service was reliable and that timely communication was treated as a core part of the service experience.

The existing infrastructure lacked both the data visibility and the real-time communication mechanisms required to support a premium service offering. Systems were siloed, with no consistent mechanism for passing communication events. The business needed a solution that could:

The Solution

Innablr partnered with the client's integration and data teams to design a solution that elevated communication from a basic utility to a strategic data asset. The approach combined a robust API integration layer with Databricks at the core of the analytics strategy, creating an end-to-end platform that connected people, systems, and data.

A Standards-Based API Integration Layer

At the heart of the solution was a purpose-built REST API, designed in alignment with the TM Forum Communication Management standard—the same framework used by leading telcos globally. This gave the client a consistent, well-governed interface through which integration messages and data could be standardised.

The client was then able to send messages in bulk and automate the processing of bounces and complaints, reducing manual overhead and protecting the organisation's sender reputation at scale.

The API was deployed behind the client's cloud API gateway, ensuring it met enterprise security, naming, and error-handling standards from day one.

Databricks as the Analytics Engine

Databricks consumed and processed all service data for every customer, including rich time-series data points that captured every moment of the customer's service. This gave the client early visibility of emerging issues, accurate measurement of customer consumption, and end-to-end service visibility for downstream systems to consume.

To turn raw data into actionable business intelligence, the architecture integrated seamlessly with Databricks using the Medallion Architecture. This enabled the business to:
